This is lovely! I really enjoy a yoga class in a different city so will always pack yoga clothes, but I just enjoy mooching around, walking everywhere (often with ice cream!)
I have definitely enjoyed trying classes and gyms in other places, too! It's a nice way to explore the city and sometimes meet nice people, get recommendations, etc. (Similarly, I love a souvenir haircut!) Also, ice cream is essential!
Exercise shoe question! I’ve gotten really into lifting weights (dumbbells in my basement) and my running shoes feel unstable for leg day. Would love thoughts on shoes for squats, lunges, etc. Do some people wear Converse, is that a thing?
Love your newsletter! A shoes question - my movement has been sidelined by life, kids etc but most recently by planters fasciitis which is affecting even my ability to walk, previously my most reliable daily movement. Any tips for finding the right shoe given the limited amount of time one tries it on while in the store? Thanks!
I so needed to read this. I've been struggling with the line between consistency of movement and the obsession I used to have when I believed in IWL. It's so hard!
Jamie, whom i referenced in the piece, once said something like, “if I’m going to be doing this when I’m 90, I’m going to miss a lot of Mondays!” I think it’s so helpful to see the bigger picture and give yourself grace, even as you aim for a level of consistency that is sustainable.
