A fun opportunity for those interested in movement and reproductive rights
✨ Quick announcement! ✨
Hey friends! Just a quick note to let you know about a special reproductive health fundraising project I’ve been spearheading for the past two years. There’s an event coming up next week and I’d love to see you there.
After the Dobbs decision, I created a small fundraiser called Pilates for Abortion Funds. Since July 2022, I’ve taught a monthly, all-levels, body-neutral mat Pilates class on Zoom for which the entry fee is proof of donation (any amount) to the National Network of Abortion Funds (or your favorite local abortion fund). We have between 30 and 40 participants most months, and so far we’ve collectively donated more than $27,000 to abortion funds. Why abortion funds? Here’s how I put it on the PFAF website:
Since well before Roe v Wade was overturned, access to abortion has been difficult and expensive, making it out of reach for many people who desperately need this critical form of health care, particularly people in challenging financial situations, minoritized groups, and those who live in rural areas. Abortion funds have been operating for many years to help patients cover not only the procedure itself but transportation, lodging, childcare, and other related expenses. The events of summer 2022 made this need even greater and more urgent.
Anyway: The class is fun and low-key and a great introduction to Pilates if you’ve never tried it before — and because I offer a few options for each exercise, you can make it as challenging or accessible as you like. No equipment required, and you can have your camera on or off. I also send a video to all donors the next day so you can still take the class even if you can’t make it live.
My next class will be this coming Tuesday evening, 10/22, at 8pm ET on Zoom (again, with video to follow if that time doesn’t work!). If you make a one-time donation and send me your receipt I’ll add you to the calendar event for that class. If you make a recurring donation (highly encouraged!) I’ll add you to all future classes. To participate in this month’s class, please submit your donation receipt no later than 2p ET on Tuesday 10/22. If you’re receiving this newsletter as an email, you can just reply to the email and submit your receipt. If not, send me a DM with your email address or fill out the inquiry form here to get connected.
This project has been such a meaningful way to turn despair and anxiety into action, and to feel the power of the collective — it’s been truly amazing to see our donation numbers continue to grow with a still-quite small group of participants. I would love for you to join us. Please let me know if you have any questions!
