Oh Anna, maybe it’s because I haven’t had enough coffee yet this morning or something, but what you wrote has me choked up and eye-wiping. I can’t say how much I appreciate your commitment to weight neutrality and your warmth and caring for all of us in your community.
Living in values alignment is a meaningful way to have a good life, but it's not always a comfortable or easy way to live. Thank you for sharing your experience, it so important to model this to others.
Although I already knew this about you, I am so glad to know that there are a few of us in the fitness industry who have standards and hold to them.
The brand offers I get are likely smaller than the one you're talking about (I think mostly they are AI generated emails to me because they "compliment me" using exact language for how I describe my teaching directly from my bio on my youtube videos), it continues to amaze me that they reach out to me at all. Mostly because I am super clear about who I am and who I'm willing to work with and it's never brands like them.
I am a little impressed that their response to you was so thoughtful, even if they couldn't change their product.
In related news, people have been asking me to put my membership or programs on an app for years, but every single "fitness" video app I've found so far, always asks a questions about current weight and weight loss goals. That is not something I want my members to encounter when they log in, so I still won't do it. It frustrates me that so many products within the health and fitness world still so highly prioritize weight loss as the goal of movement.
I think it’s great that you explored this, and trusted yourself about sticking to your values. And I appreciate you being transparent about the process! Very interesting.
(I love the Megababe deodorant too — I use the Geo Deo.)
